Kevin Obuya Nyaberi

Kevin Obuya Nyaberi will be graduating from Rutgers University in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. After he begins his career, he plans on going back to school to get his Masters and PhD in Mathematics. He would like to teach High School in the latter years of his career way after his mechanical and aerospace career comes to a close.

Kevin would also like to use his already acquired skills and the skills he is yet to learn to advocate for people with disabilities in workplaces because he believes that everyone deserves a fair chance to succeed.

Kevin has interned with Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, United Airlines subsidiary Airserv, Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG), and Bell Helicopter. Kevin has worked as an Enumerator for the United States Census Bureau and also for the Rutgers University’s W.M Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience, where he assisted graduate students with spinal cord injury research.

Kevin has used his passion for teaching to help students with learning difficulties to learn and appreciate mathematics. He has also volunteered at the New Jersey Food Bank, Rutgers University Annual Monster Mash, the Upward Bound program, All DFW Tutoring and Mentoring Program, Tiny Tots Spot, the BIG Chill, and Rutgers University Football and Basketball games convenience stand to raise money to help people in Kenya and Guatemala get access to clean water.

Kevin has been involved with campus organizations such as Engineers Without Borders, Engineering Governing Council, RU School of Engineering Open House, Minority Engineers Education Task (NSBE Chapter), Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, National Society of Leadership and Success, LSAMP, Educational Opportunity Fund, Adventist Students of Christ, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and RU Residence Hall Association. Most recently, he participated in the USBLN’s 2015 Career Link Mentoring Program as a mentee.

In his free time, Kevin enjoys spending quality time with his family and friends, making time for God, playing video games especially Fifa, watching sports and television shows, teaching mathematics to whomever needs help, singing, listening to music, playing soccer, playing field hockey and more importantly babysitting. His favorite football team is the New Orleans Saints even though he hails from Tri-State area, Arsenal FC for soccer, LA Lakers for basketball, Kentucky for college basketball, and Stanford for college football.
