Ozgul Calicioglu (Özgül Çalıcıoğlu) is a Ph.D. candidate at The Pennsylvania State University, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Currently, she is working as an Intern in the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. She received her B.S. (in 2011) and M.Sc. (in 2013) degrees in Environmental Engineering from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. Ozgul also holds a B.S. degree in Business Management from People’s Friendship University of Russia in Moscow, Russian Federation.
Ozgul’s research focuses on converting waste streams into biofuels and other valuable products. She directs her expertise toward sustainable development and creating a positive impact on the well-being of current and future generations.
Currently, Ozgul is serving as the Chair of USBLN Rising Leaders Advisory Council. She has been actively involved in Rising Leaders programs and activities since she was selected as a mentee in 2016. In her free time, Ozgul enjoys traveling, playing the piano, and teaching yoga. She is fluent in Russian, English, and Turkish, and also speaks basic Spanish.
